Plans have been rejected for a new housing development in Hopeman, Moray.

Springfield Properties proposed to build a mix of 22 'affordable' flats and houses at a site on Forsyth Street.

However, members of the Council's Planning & Regulatory Services Committee upheld officers' recommendation to refuse permission for the scheme, with a report stating the size and scale of the proposal did not reflect the settlement pattern.

In addition, the report said the scheme failed to integrate into the surrounding area and would be detrimental to the existing open character and identity of Forsyth Street and Hopeman.

A total of 254 objections were also lodged against the development, with local residents raising concerns about siting and design.

Chair of the committee, Cllr Wilson, said despite the need for more 'affordable' housing in Moray being recognised, the local authority felt the project fell outside current planning guidelines.
