Midlothian Council has adopted its new Local Development Plan (LDP).
The new document, which sets out the planning strategy for Midlothian over the next 10 years, has been approved following a lengthy period of public consultation.
Hundreds of representations and thousands of comments were received received on the Proposed Midlothian LDP after it was published in May 2015. After the council considered these representations in May 2016, unresolved issues were examined by a government-appointed Report in November last year.
However, the local authority said the Reporter's recommendations do not fundamentally alter its position and support the view that that it has a sufficient supply of land for housing, with no new allocations planned over and above those identified in the Proposed Plan.
Cllr Russell Imrie said the council is pleased the Reporter has "largely supported" its position as set out in the Plan.
"The adoption of the new Local Development Plan marks the final stage in a long and detailed process, and provides us with a strategy to enhance our environment and to guide future housing, economic and retail development, new transport links, schools and other infrastructure," he said.
The Midlothian LDP is now set to be published within the next few weeks.
