SP Energy Networks has opened a new operational hub in Knowsley, Merseyside, as it increases investment in people, infrastructure and facilities to meet rising electricity demand across the region.

Located at Hub50 within Knowsley Business Park, the base offers a modern, efficient working environment for teams delivering essential electricity network upgrades and maintenance across Merseyside and the wider North West.

The move forms part of ongoing investment to strengthen the network that powers homes, businesses and communities, maintaining a safe, secure and reliable electricity supply while supporting the UK's transition to a low-carbon future.

Derek Fairbairn, District General Manager at SP Energy Networks, said: "We're delighted to be moving into our new home in Knowsley. This modern facility gives our teams the space, resources and infrastructure they need to continue delivering for customers across Merseyside and the wider region.

"With demand for electricity continuing to grow, we're investing heavily in our network and recruiting more people to help deliver that investment. Having a new operational hub in the heart of the communities we serve will support our teams as they maintain and upgrade the network, connect new developments and help enable a cleaner, greener future.

"This move reflects our long-term commitment to the region and ensures we're well placed to meet the needs of customers both now and in the years ahead."

The new hub has been delivered in partnership with Redsun Projects, the developer behind Hub50 at Knowsley Business Park. Working closely together throughout the project, the organisations have created a modern and sustainable base designed to support SP Energy Networks' growing workforce and long-term investment plans.

Andrew Kilpatrick, Development Director at Redsun Projects, said: "We're delighted to welcome SP Energy Networks to Hub50. The facility has been designed to provide high-quality, sustainable space that supports long-term operational growth, and we're proud to have worked alongside SP Energy Networks to deliver a building that meets their needs now and for the future."

The 50,000 sq ft facility has been built to modern environmental standards, achieving a BREEAM Very Good certification and an EPC A rating. Sustainability features include solar photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle charging points and energy-efficient building systems.

From Knowsley, SP Energy Networks' teams will support operations across Merseyside around the clock, maintaining the electricity network, responding to faults and delivering major investment projects to keep power flowing to homes and businesses.

Councillor Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Knowsley Council, welcomed the move, saying: "We're pleased to welcome SP Energy Networks to Knowsley Business Park. Their investment in the borough demonstrates the strength of Knowsley's business community and will help support local employment and economic growth."

Close to key transport links including the M57, M62 and A580, the site provides excellent regional access, enabling operational teams to respond efficiently to network needs and support customers across Merseyside and beyond.
