Temporary traffic lights and a 30mph limit will operate from 21 September for 26 weeks as SP Energy Networks connects a new battery energy storage site (BESS) to the electricity grid near Longannet.

To enable the connection, around 5.5km of underground cable will be laid between the BESS site and the former Longannet Power Station, where it will link into the overhead line circuit.

The traffic lights will run 24 hours a day, Monday–Friday, with the reduced speed limit in place to safeguard the workforce and allow the project to proceed safely and efficiently.

The works are being delivered by Maxwell Construction on behalf of SP Energy Networks.

“We will monitor and review all aspects of the traffic management throughout the project to ensure it is effective and efficient, and we will work to complete the project as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused while these works are underway.”
