Workers based at the NuStar fuel terminal in Clydebank have started strike action in a dispute over working terms and arrangements.
Union Unite has revealed employees are taking part in 48 hours of industrial action today, 25 September and will begin a further stoppage on Tuesday, 26 September. In addition, a continuous overtime ban also remains in place.
Unite claims NuStar has until recently refused to engaged in any discussions to resolve the dispute, but have now agreed to use the conciliation services offered by ACAS.
The union added workers at the terminal have also been placed under formal investigation, which Unite believes is directly related to their trade union activities and breaches the Trade Union Act 2016.
Both West Dunbartonshire Council and West Dunbartonshire MP, Martin Docherty-Hughes, have called on NuStar management to address claims of imposition and intimidation.
The first meeting between workers and management will take place on Thursday, 28 September.
Unite regional officer Stephen Deans said the intransigence shown by NuStar management is "beggars belief".
"Everyone including the Council and local MP, have publicly said that the treatment of the workforce is unacceptable and must be resolved," he said.
"I know our members greatly appreciate this support and the solidarity they have received from the wider community."
"Unite's position all along has been to resolve this matter through meaningful discussions. Yet, we are nine months down the line and the company has not moved one inch. NuStar has a choice; it can address our members' legitimate concerns or face ongoing industrial action by the workers and significant damage to its reputation as an employer."
