A milestone has been reached on a £9 million office development project in South Lanarkshire.
The four-storey Red Tree Shawfield complex has reached its topping out stage and the project remains on schedule for completion in August 2018.
Robertson Central began work on the project at Glasgow Road in April this year. The development is the third to be developed by Clyde Gateway under the Red Tree brand but the first involving a complete new-build with the other developments in Bridgeton and Rutherglen emerging from the conversion and refurbishment of vacant buildings.
Once finished, it will create 250 new jobs and become the first building at Magenta, the new business district launched last year by Clyde Gateway in partnership with Highbridge Properties PLC.
Speaking at the topping out ceremony, Clare Haughey MSP said: "Clyde Gateway is taking a major lead in the regeneration of the Rutherglen community in many different ways and I was delighted to be given the opportunity to be involved in this topping-out ceremony. Shawfield has historically been associated with industry and commerce and I'm really excited by the long-term plans for the Magenta development as they will see more than a million square feet of high quality space becoming home to as many as 12,000 jobs."
Cllr Carol Nugent added: "Red Tree Shawfield and the wider proposals for the area offer the perfect demonstration of a regeneration that goes well beyond a physical transformation.
"It is an exciting development that has been given complete backing and financial support by the council as it is key to our aspirations to expand the range and types of businesses which are keen to make their home in South Lanarkshire. I've no doubt that this will be the first of many such topping-out ceremonies in Shawfield over the coming years."
