Up to £4.5 million is to be invested to improve Dunfermline's water network.
The scheme will see new valves, hydrants and cross connections installed in and around Pilmuir Street, Victoria Terrace, Arthur Street, Townhill Road, Thistle Street and neighbouring roads.
The work is being carried out by contractor George Leslie on behalf of Scottish Water.
A rolling six- to eight-week work programme will begin at the junction of Pilmuir Street and Victoria Terrace on 01 July. A section of Victoria Terrace between Bannerman Street will be closed for around three weeks.
As the work progresses to neighbouring streets, most of the works will be done under localised traffic management however there will be localised road closures in in Arthur Street at junction with Townhill Road) during the rolling programme.
Thomas Lochrie, Scottish Water project manager said: "This work in Dunfermline is part of a wider programme across Scotland to improve customers security of their water supply, and reduce the overall risk of burst mains in the network.
"During the works customers may experience some interruption to supply, a change in water pressure and/or discoloured water. If this happens don't be alarmed, turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen, let the water flow slowly until it runs clear."
Ruaridh Macgregor, Scottish Water's regional communities team manager, added: "The timing of this project is to coincide with the school holidays to minimise the impact on traffic, I would like to thank affected residents and road users in advance for their patience and understanding.
"Following this initial programme, Scottish Water will be implementing a further 6-8 week programme to remove redundant assets from the network and carrying out road resurfacing."
