McLaren Murdoch and Hamilton (MMH) have been appointed to draw up designs for a new £2.85 million community hub in Angus.
The architectural firm have already created initial sketches from ideas submitted at local workshops and community engagement events earlier this year. The designs will go on display later this month at the Letham Recreation Centre.
The project aims to refurbish the Recreation Centre on Tweedsmuir Road. The new facility will give people easy access to a wide range of services including childcare provision, NHS drop-in clinics, health and social care, adult learning, bereavement care, therapies, parenting services, IT training and Perth and Kinross Credit Union. In addition, it will provide meeting rooms and spaces for community events, as well as a dedicated gym space and flexible three court sports hall.
The scheme is being led by the Community Hub Project Team, who have redeveloped the Office attached to the Recreation Centre into a temporary mini Community Hub.
Despite being unsuccessful in its bid for top-up funding from the Scottish Government Regeneration Fund, Perth & Kinross Council has made funding available to carry out the project.
The Community Hub Project Team's Chairperson, Maggie Brown, said: "I hope as many local people will come in and see the design sketches for the new Community Hub, and tell us what they think. We want the building to reflect what the people of Letham want and need. This is our chance to create something very special for Letham."
The dates and time of the workshops to display designs are:
• between 10.30am - 12.30pm, Saturday 20 and 27 May and 03 June
• between 5pm - 7pm, Tuesday 16 and 23 and 30 May
• between 5pm – 7pm, Thursday, 18 and 25 May and Tuesday, 06 June
