A major milestone has been reached on the £28 million Dundee Rail Station redevelopment project.

Balfour Beatty has installed the main arch steel modules on the project, which involves creating a new station concourse and hotel as part of the new Central Waterfront development.

The contractor is continuing work to deliver the 1,100 tonne steel structure modules and completion is scheduled before the end of the year. Once finished, work will begin on installing the metal decking and concrete floor slab to form the station concourse. The works will run concurrently with the construction of the outer shell of the station and hotel.

Hector MacAulay, Balfour Beatty Regional Managing Director, Scotland, said: "This is an exciting development in the construction programme with visible changes to the Dundee skyline taking shape. We have used our experience in delivering complex rail and construction programmes to enable works to continue at pace."

The new Dundee Rail Station is being built on the site of the former station concourse, with a triple height ground floor incorporating a passenger concourse, ticketing facilities, a café/restaurant and retail space and three additional floors above the concourse to accommodate a new hotel.

The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2017.
