Falkirk Council has issued a tender for a contractor to build a new car park at Falkirk High station.

Work on the £785,000 project is scheduled to begin next month and completion is expected in February 2017.

The 2,500m2 site is located off the B803 (Slamannan Road) and will see an additional 61 car parking spaces created for commuter and travellers, bringing the total number available to 416.

Features will include new lighting, CCTV, cycle rack and pedestrian access will be via an underpass/path on Drossie Road.

The project is being majority funded by the council's capital programme, with contributions from ScotRail and the Scottish Stations Fund.

Cllr Dr Craig Martin said: "Encouraging greater use of public transport is important and creating these additional 61 spaces for cars and a cycle rack for bikes will help towards this aim.

"The train links to the Falkirk area are very important with thousands travelling to and from the various stations located here and we will continue to support schemes that improve services locally."

A contractor is expected to be appointed by the end of September 2016.
