Scottish Borders Council is to host a public exhibition showcasing plans for a flood protection scheme in Hawick.

The two-day event will take place at Hawick Town Hall from 9am – 9pm on Tuesday, 23 August and Wednesday, 24 August.

Consulting engineers CH2M and council officers will attend the exhibition to answer residents' questions on the scheme, which is currently in its outline design phase.


Project artist Andrew Mackenzie will also be in attendance to show the proposals for the permanent public artworks associated with the project.

Cllr Gordon Edgar said: "We want to discuss the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme with people as any concerns raised now can be addressed. Issues brought up later could lead to delays with the project.

"That is why it is so important for residents, local businesses and community groups to come along to our public exhibition.

"Scottish Borders Council remains committed to the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme and hope the people of the town will show their support by coming along to the public exhibition."

Once all necessary details are finalised, construction is scheduled to begin in 2019.
