Essential maintenance works are to begin on the historic Marnoch Bridge in Aberdeenshire.

Repair work on the 210-year-old and B-listed bridge on the A97 was identified during a Principal Inspection in 2015. The work required includes repointing which, due to the age of the bridge, will require the use of lime mortar. This in turn, requires the work to be carried out during the summer months.


The estimated cost of the work is £20,000, which were approved by the Banff and Buchan area committee at a meeting earlier this year.

Works are due to take place Monday - Friday between the hours of 09.30 am – 3.30pm.

Head of Roads, Landscape Services and Waste Management for Aberdeenshire Council, Philip McKay, said: "We have scheduled this essential closure to coincide with the school holidays and during off peak times, in an effort to minimise the impact on commuters.

"I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure and hope to have the works completed with a minimum impact on the travelling public."
