Plans to demolish a former village hotel in Lhanbyde have been deferred by Moray Council.
Planning officers had recommended approving an application to level the Tennant Arms Hotel and replace it with a shop unit.
However, over 100 local residents objected to the proposals, claiming the building was an important local landmark.
Councillors have now agreed to defer consideration of the planning application to a hearing, at which the applicant and objectors will have the opportunity to state their cases.
