Approval has been granted for a £2 million extension of a health centre in East Lothian.

The Prestonpans Health Centre will be extended and refurbished to increase the buildings size and provide purpose-built spaces.

In addition, the extension will include three new treatment rooms, a community consulting room and two larger health care assistant rooms.

The project is being delivered by NHS Lothian's development partner Hub South East Scotland Ltd, and its appointed contractor, Graham Construction.

David Small, Chief Officer, East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, said: "The East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership wants to enable much more locally-based care and this development in Prestonpans will provide a modern and accessible health centre, able to respond effectively to the needs of its community."

Paul McGirk, Chief Executive, Hub South East Scotland, added: "Planning approval is an exciting step in the development of this project. A refurbished and extended health centre will make a real difference to the local community in Prestonpans and we are proud to be playing our part."

Work is due to begin this spring and will be completed in winter 2016.
