Work is progressing on plans to create a new community hub at a village in Midlothian.

The Rosewell Community Trust has successfully secured a derelict site for the facility at Rosewell Mains Steading.

Plans include creating a community cafe, local produce market, arts and crafts centre and general community facility.

Council Leader Catherine Johnstone said: "The trust has made good progress and the council will continue to work with it to provide financial, technical, legal and marketing support. We will also make sure the building works remain on time and on budget. Having looked at the proposed business plan, we feel there's still scope to approach at least one more external funder to bridge the funding gap."
