The Grosvenor Group has secured planning consent for a new housing development in Edinburgh.

The city council has granted permission for the property developers proposed build-to-rent scheme at Fountainbridge.

The architects for the scheme are CDA and HTA.

It is understood up to 400 homes could be developed in the former industrial area.

The group has already built the first phase of the project consisting of 250 homes at Springside.

This include homes for sale, 'affordable' housing, homes for the 'frail and elderly', serviced apartments and two student residents comprising of over 600 accommodation spaces.

In addition, 46 private rented homes have also been developed

David Yaldron, Director of City Centre Developments at Grosvenor, said: "We welcome the City of Edinburgh’s forward-thinking decision in granting planning consent.  Our project team has collaborated closely with local neighbourhood organisations and today’s decision marks an important and exciting step forward for the area’s wider regeneration.

"In addition to new homes, this consent includes plans for a new public square, community spaces and commercial and retail space, which we hope will add to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and re-position it as one of the best places to live in Edinburgh."
