West Dunbartonshire Council has secured a £10,000 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant to redevelop a historic site in the region.

Work at the Antonine Wall is part of a project to increase awareness and understanding of the site, including the area of the exposed Wall rampart which lies within Goldenhill Park, Clydebank.

Features of the 'Antonine Wall – Enhancing our heritage' project includes a full archaeological clean of the Wall rampart along with removing and replacing the existing railings around the Wall.

In addition, an extra £2,500 will also help fund the project after a successful application to the Glasgow Airport Flightpath Fund.

The council is also contributing £20,000 of capital funding.

Councillor Lawrence O'Neill said: "The section of the Antonine Wall which is within Goldenhill Park is an important part of the rich heritage which we have in West Dunbartonshire.

"I am delighted that we have secured these two grants which will allow significant work to be undertaken to improve the appearance of this section of the Wall.

"It is important that we celebrate this significant historical site and continue to recognise the huge importance of the Wall, both to our local area and further afield."
