Planning consent has been granted for a 'forest home' retreat within the Cairngorms National Park.
Approval was given to Moxon Architects to develop the 'climate proof' Quarry House project at Crathie Wood.
The timber-clad scheme will be located in a redundant quarry and join a small cluster of houses and community buildings.
The position of the building will offer some protection from the extreme weather, where temperatures can drop to -20 degrees during winter.
Rooms will be oriented to the south and west to maximise solar gain, while the profile of the home follows the slope of the landscape to minimise exposure.
Architect Ben Addy said: "The brief for this house was that it should be of the woods as much as it is in the woods. Although the overall footprint is very simple the interior spaces are deliberately ‘misaligned' in order to create pockets of space that embed the building in its surroundings with sheltered niches and frequent unexpected views."
Work on the project is set to begin in mid-2016.
