ScottishPower Renewables has signed a £25m deal with the Port of Lowestoft to act as the construction and operations hub of a wind farm project off the coast of Suffolk.
The port will be utilised as the construction management base for the 172-turbine East Anglia ONE project.
Once completed, the project could power the annual electricity demands of more than 750,000 homes.
In addition, the port will be used as the main Operations and Maintenance hub during the 30-year lifespan of the project.
As part of the deal, a new operations facility will be established with upgrades and modifications carried out to the port and surrounding harbour area.
Jonathan Cole, MD of Offshore Wind at ScottishPower Renewables, said: "In Lowestoft, we will manage construction activities and operate and maintain our East Anglia ONE project for at least the next three decades. This will support highly skilled, long-term jobs, both directly and across our supply chain. Every year during the construction phase and operations phase of the project, millions of pounds will be injected in to the local economy."
