Orkney Islands Council's (OIC) Planning Service has received praise from the Scottish Government in a recent report.

Feedback on the council's Planning Performance Framework reveals major improvements have been made to the service since 2013.

The service was marked on a red, amber, green rating for 15 different performance markers.

In 2013, the council received six red ratings.


However, this year the feedback showed no red marks, three amber and ten green with two markers not applicable.

A strong performance was seen in the timescales for determining planning applications, coming out better than the Scottish average.

Councillor Rob Crichton said: "The planning service is a Council service that will affect everyone in Orkney in some way and therefore important that we ensure the service is of a high quality with a commitment to continuous improvement."
