A new £11.5 million primary school in East Dunbartonshire is to open earlier than expected after an early start on its development.

The school is being delivered in partnership with the council by hub West Scotland as part of the Primary School Improvement Programme (PSIP).

It will replace the existing Lenzie Moss Primary and Lenzie Primary schools.

Features of the project include developing a flexible indoor/outdoor learning areas and a multi-use games area.

A 3G pitch within the schools playground is now due to be delivered ahead of schedule to the accelerated construction of the school building.

This is expected to be completed by Christmas 2016.

Council Leader, Rhondda Geekie said: "This is great news for the community in Lenzie as opening the school at the start of the academic year will allow for a more direct transition for pupils.

"It also means that the demolition of the old Lenzie Moss school building can begin during the school holiday period which will reduce disruption to the operation of the new school during term time."

The new school is receiving £5m funding through the Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme, managed by the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

It is the second PSIP to be built, as Lairdsland Primary School in Kirkintilloch was opened in May this year.
