A new £85,000 play park has opened in Motherwell.

The Calder Park facility contains new equipment, including a five bay swing, a giant rope swing, rope climbing features, a hammock, roundabouts, seating and grass mounding.

A range of play equipment is also available for children under five-years-old.

The project was officially opened by Councillor's Helen McKenna and Peter Nolan.

New bonded rubber surfacing has also been installed to increase accessibility to the site.

North Lanarkshire Council provided funding for the project through its Local Development Programme (£59,000) and Learning and Leisure Capital budget (£26,000).

The project was delivered in partnership with CultureNL and Motherwell Local Area Partnership.

Councillor Nolan said: "This is a facility which was desperately needed in Calder Park and we are delighted with the outcome.

"This was the first phase of improvements to the park and we will now discuss with our partners the next step in bringing Calder Park back into the heart of the community."

The official opening took place on 14 July.
