Preliminary design work has started for a replacement road bridge on the B9163 Findon to Cromarty road.
The Newhall Bridge was damaged by a falling tree during a storm in January and had to close for traffic.
Following an inspection by the Council's structural engineers, a permanent replacement will be put in place.
The council has approved £400,000 in funding to allow work on replacing the bridge to begin.
A topographical survey has also been completed.
Councillor Craig Fraser said: "We will be keeping communities up-dated on plans and will be looking to get their input as the project progresses."
