Avanti Selected To Design New Public Buildings

Avanti Architects has been appointed to design new buildings in Southwark for the council.

The Glasgow based architect has been selected to draw up new plans for the Walworth Town Hall and Newington Library buildings.

Both properties were destroyed by a fire in 2013.

Developments will include an enhanced space for the library, which can be used for civic events, entertainment performances, exhibitions and registrar facilities with space for wedding ceremonies.

A new public square will also be developed.

Avanti will work with Faithful + Gould to develop proposals and a full consultation process will begin later this year.

Amir Ramezani, Director of Avanti, said: "We are delighted to be appointed to transform Walworth Town Hall into a new revitalised cultural venue and look forward to working with the community to create a civic hub they can take pride in."
