East Lothian Council will contribute almost £75,000 in funding towards the Edinburgh City Region (ECR) deal.
Initiatives across the city regions will involve development projects in transport, housing, regeneration, and energy.
It is understood that £1 billion could be potentially boosted to the Lothian economy.
The ECR project has been created between East Lothian Council, Edinburgh, Fife, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian Council.
The government is expected to give £1 billion in funding.
John McMillan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Economic Development and Tourism said: "The Edinburgh City Region Deal is a really exciting prospect and could have huge benefits for East Lothian and our neighbouring areas."
