Work Completed On Water Mains Upgrade

Work to improve the water mains infrastructure in Falkirk and Grangemouth has been completed, Scottish Water has said.

Around 50 miles of water mains were upgraded as part of a £3.8m project.

The work, undertaken by contractors Farrans on behalf of Scottish Water, commenced in February 2013. It involved a mixture of installing plastic lining on some 17 miles of stretches of mains; swabbing and flushing around 31 miles of pipes and also pipe replacement.

Following the completion of the project, more than 100,000 people in the Camelon, Carronshore, Falkirk, Grangemouth and Stenhousemuir areas benefit from cleaner, safer drinking water, as well as an improved security of supply.

Jim Hassan, Scottish Water's water operations manager, commented: "Scottish Water is delighted to have completed this massive investment in our network of water mains in parts of the Falkirk and Grangemouth area.

"The investment is delivering many benefits to our customers in towns and villages across the area – the main one being clearer, fresher drinking water.

"The upgrade in the network of mains and pipes will help ensure a first class supply of drinking water straight to customers' taps for many years to come."
