Tender Awarded For Whitfield Green Development

A tender for the development of Whitfield Green has been awarded.

It is understood that Fife-based T&N Gilmartin has secured the contract. The company specialises in landscaping, civil engineering, grounds maintenance, street lighting and surfacing.

The project will see a derelict area of land at Lothian Crescent redeveloped into 'Whitfield Green'. The Whitfield Development Group has secured £250,000 of Big Lottery Funding for the initiative, but next week Dundee City Council's Environment Committee will also be asked to pledge their support for the project.

Commenting on the scheme, Councillor Craig Melville, Environment Convener, said: "It is great to see this project is almost ready to get underway. The local community has already put in a lot of effort and the city council will continue to work alongside them to make this a reality.

"Whitfield is already benefiting from regeneration, with the new Ballumbie Primary School and the popular Crescent facility having been constructed in recent years."

George Roberts, Whitfield Development Group, added: "At long last this project is hopefully going to go ahead. Long and protracted consultations have been negotiated to give the residents the best possible facilities for all age groups, at the Whitfield Park.

"This is a great opportunity for the residents to meet socially and be able to participate in a healthy way using the equipment provided at the park."
