A new site is being considered for a sports pitch in Peebles, the Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has said.

The preferred location for the full-sized synthetic 3G pitch is Craigerne Lane, adjacent to Peebles High School. It is understood the site is being considered after the parks next to Gytes Leisure Centre were ruled out following concerns about potential flooding in the area.

A drop-in event will now be held next month to allow the local community to share their views on the proposals. Following the consultation, the facility's design will be finalised and discussed at a community event before a planning application is submitted.


Councillor Vicky Davidson, Executive Member for Sport, Culture, Youth and Communities, commented: "We're committed to delivering a 3G pitch for the community in Peebles and sportscotland has also guaranteed matched funding.

"Hopefully we'll be able to start work on site this year and it is important that we take all views on board. The Craigerne site gives easy access for the high school and allows us to use the existing changing provision."

The exhibition will be held at Peebles High School Sports Centre on Friday 6 February, between 3pm and 7pm.
