Planning permission has been approved for a new workshop premises to be constructed at the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate.

The £1.8m project will see 13 workshop units created, ranging in size from 500 to 1,000 sq ft. Thirty-five parking spaces will also be made.

Work is due to begin in March 2015, with a scheduled completion fate of August next year.

The project is being developed by West Dunbartonshire Council's development partner, hub West Scotland, while Heron Bros has been appointed the main contractor.

Councillor Lawrence O'Neill, Convener of the local authority's Planning Committee, said: "This project is another example of the Council's commitment to regeneration in West Dunbartonshire. These new workshops will meet the clear demand for new workshop space in the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven area. They will be ideal for businesses that are just starting out, or for existing businesses to expand."

Councillor Douglas McAllister, Depute Convener of Planning, added: "This is great news for the local business community. This project will also transform an area of land which is currently vacant and derelict, and give it a new lease of life. I look forward to seeing local businesses move into these new workshops once they are completed next year."
