Plans for the new £30m Newbattle Community High School have been unveiled by Midlothian Council.
The facility, which has been designed by Cooper Cromar architects, would be located opposite the current building at the Mayfield Complex in the area. It will be divided into three main elements, consisting of an entrance block, a teaching wing and a community facility that would include a gym and swimming pool.
The leisure facilities provided by the community hub would see a six-lane swimming pool and health suite installed, as well as fitness rooms, community rooms, a multi-purpose hall, internet café, library and art facilities.
Construction work on the replacement dwelling is scheduled to commence early next year, with an expected completion date of August 2016.
A total of £17m has been given to the development by the Scottish Government, with Midlothian Council contributing towards the remainder of the cost.
Work on the new school will begin early in 2015 for completion by August 2016.
