The façade belonging to the former Scottish Provident building at Edinburgh's St Andrew Square has been stripped by Comprehensive Design Architects and Gareth Hoskins Architects, according to the website Urban Realm.

The website said Standard Life Assurance Ltd is attempting to amend an existing consent following Historic Scotland’s decision to de-list the building, which has now been demolished, after having promised to re-use portions of the concrete facing.

The proposal has now been altered to build a new façade consisting of a full-height limestone collonade.

The design statement for the new scheme says: "Rather than continue the metallic ‘bronze’ of the adjacent facades, the new building is deliberately differentiated through a lighter coloured limestone. The intent is to form these vertical elements to appear as solid pieces of stone to maintain the sense of solidity and avoid the thinness presented by many modern 'stone clad' buildings."
