Ground Work Commences On A82

A series of ground investigation works have commenced on the A82, it has been announced.

The project is focused on the stretch of road between Tarbet and Inverarnan.

When completed, the work will help to identify a preferred route for the scheme next year. It is understood this phase is due to be completed by mid-December 2014.

In a statement Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "The 10 mile section of the A82 between Tarbet and Inverarnan runs between the iconic Loch Lomond and the stunning hills that border it, so it is important that any upgrade to the route fits with the challenges of the topography while maintaining the world renowned beauty of the area.

"The ground investigations taking place over the next couple of months will help inform the ongoing work to design a preferred route by next summer.

"Coupled with the construction work for the Pulpit Rock improvement scheme and the Crianlarich Bypass bringing improved road safety and journey time reliability, we are committed to upgrade the A82 which is a vital economic and social lifeline as it connects businesses and communities in the Highlands and Islands with the central belt."

Paul McIntyre, Scottish Operations Manager for Environmental Scientifics Group's (ESG) Geotechnical Division, added: "We are delighted to take forward this ground investigation work as part of the A82 Tarbet to Inverarnan improvement scheme and are proud to again be associated with one of Transport Scotland's most high profile transport projects.

"ESG's breadth and depth of technical expertise, coupled with our experience and focus on delivering service excellence will massively contribute to the overall assessment of the engineering challenges and the eventual selection of a preferred upgrade option for the route."
