The Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) has submitted an application to purchase 4,487 hectares of woodland at Barracks, Rannoch, it has been confirmed.

The SWT applied to the National Forest Land Scheme (NFLS).

Administered by Forestry Commission Scotland, the NFLS allows communities the chance to bid to buy, or lease, national forest land on the condition that it provides increased public benefits.

The group has said the proposal would deliver on the Trust's Reserve Acquisition Policy. A statement read: "The Scottish Wildlife Trust will acquire and maintain a network of wildlife reserves to safeguard a broad representation of wildlife found throughout Scotland, and to act as examples to others and for the public benefit including enjoyment, information and education."

A 28-day consultation period regarding the proposal has now been opened and feedback is encouraged. More details can be found here.
