Work on a new flood relief drain system is to commence in Stonehaven's Old Town next week.
The project is part of a wider scheme to try and protect the local community from flooding and will cost around £235,000 to complete.
They works include the construction of a large inlet chamber, more than 70 metres of culvert alongside buildings and through residential gardens, to culminate in a large headwall at the mouth of the River Carron.
Works will begin on Monday 15 September and are expected to last for several months. Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering will carry out the work.
Some disruption will occur around High Street and Arbuthnott Place as the project progresses, while the Boardwalk from the River Carron area to the harbour will have to close for a period, the local authority has said.
Commenting on the scheme, Philip McKay, Head of Service for Roads and Landscape, said: "When combined with other improvement works being undertaken along the Carrron and Glaslaw Burn, the Arbuthnott drain will help to improve the resilience of the Old Town in dealing with the impacts of severe weather.
"However, it is important to note that there are areas of Stonehaven that are at risk from flooding, and officers are continuing to work hard to progress the Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme, which will deliver a substantial reduction in flood risk for a wide area of the town."
