Plans to build two new primary schools in South Lanarkshire have been given the go ahead.

The local authority's Planning Committee approved plans to rebuild Libberton Primary School, Clydesdale, and Kirklandpark Primary School and Nursery, Strathaven.

Some £10m will be invested in the projects, which are part of the ongoing Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.

Construction work on the two facilities are expected to begin later this year.

At Libberton Primary School, the facility will be built on the site of the current school on Libberton Muir Road, with the pupils transferring to Tinto Primary School throughout the construction period. Proposals for the single-storey building include two classrooms, a gym/dining hall, a general activity area and library and a multi-use pitch. The project will cost £2.7m.

The Kirkland Primary School, costing £8m, will be a tandem build project with pupils remaining in the current building until works are complete.

The three-storey building will be constructed on a site to the west of the existing school and will include 11 classrooms, a general purpose room, a separate gym and dining area, 30/30 Nursery, a multi-use games area, an IT suite, offices and a library.
