Progress Continues At Ardgowan Primary School

A £5.5m refurbishment programme at Argowan Primary School, Greenock, continues to progress.

The project is part of Inverclyde Council's £210m Schools Estate Programme which aims to deliver new and refurbished schools throughout the area.

The development will see a new three-storey extension constructed on site to accommodate a gymnasium, as well new teaching facilities and an assembly hall. The new playground will feature a 120 sq m multi-use games area (MUGA), a growing garden, raised social space and a performing stage.

Work on the refurbishment is due to be completed in April 2015.

Councillor Terry Loughran, Education and Communities Convener, said: "This will deliver a state-of-the-art facility for staff, pupils and parents and for the wider community in the west of Greenock.

"I am delighted to see work is progressing and it is already clear this will be a wonderful new home for the school when it returns from its temporary home in the former Sacred Heart Primary next year."

Councillor Martin Brennan, Vice Convener, added: "The project is not a simple one given the complexities of the design process and it being in a conservation area. However the preparation and planning has been extremely thorough and will be well worth all of the effort involved."
