Stane Gardens Consultation Organised

A consultation event has been organised by North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in relation to the regeneration of Stane Gardens.

The meeting will allow the local community to share their views on the proposals for the site.

The plans include the restoration of the South Calder Water from Burnbrae Road eastwards, which would create a natural river environment through the site, while the land would be redeveloped with a series of paths, seating and planting, plus two new footbridges.

Councillor Helen McKenna, Convener of the Environmental Services Committee, said: "Now that the land at Stane Gardens has been cleaned and made safe, we can move forward to create an attractive park area for residents to enjoy.

"We have drawn up exciting plans for the site which we hope will create something for everyone in the community, and we would like to hear what residents and community groups think.

"I hope people will come along to our information event to see for themselves our proposals and give their opinions and ideas on how the project can develop."

North Lanarkshire Council has contributed £1.5m to the project, with a further £1.65m from the Water Environment Fund, administered by SEPA on behalf of the Scottish Government. A further £450,000 has been provided by the Scottish Government Vacant and Derelict Land Fund.

The consultation event will be held at Shotts EY Congregational Church Hall on Thursday 28 August, from 2pm and 7.30pm.
