A peat bog is to be restored thanks to an award from Scottish Natural Heritage.

The redundant site, located in Drumclog, Lanarkshire, will see its 75-acres restored by the QTS Group, who received the £6,345 grant.

It is understood the project will cost around £11,000 and work will commence later this year.

The land was previously drained by local farmers and it became a less attractive environment for wild animals and plants to thrive.


Alan McLeish, QTS Group's Managing Director, is quoted by the BBC as saying: "We have been eager to get to work on this peat bog for some time, and so the recent news from Scottish Natural Heritage about our successful grant application is incredibly welcome.

"The first stage of the project will see QTS's environmental specialists get to work on a survey which will identify the areas that require most attention to restore the peat bog to its former glory.

"The initial project will take around 12 months to complete, and at the end of that we hope to attract a whole host of new species to the local area."
