Work Begins On University Campus

Work has commenced on a £9.5m extension at Garthdee Campus, Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen.

Kier Construction has been appointed to the project which will see the firm construct a south wing extension to the main Garthdee Campus. It is understood work will focus on the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment.

The new 4,500sq m, five-storey building will include studio spaces, workshops, IT rooms, staff work areas, meeting rooms and exhibition space.

Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, principal of RGU, said: "Through this building, and through the new extension, RGU is making an important statement about the importance of the university to the Aberdeen community, and its ambition to be a leading university.

"The continuing development of our Garthdee campus will give our architecture and built environment students an outstanding educational environment.

"It will also bring them into closer contact with staff and students from different disciplines allowing them to benefit from working closely together than has previously been possible."

Sean O'Callaghan, Area Operations Director of Kier Construction, added: "Kier is delighted to build this important extension to Robert Gordon University campus and importantly to offer students an exclusive learning experience throughout the build. We have a wealth of experience in the education sector so we are very well placed to deliver this innovative, flagship project."
