Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has said the Redbridge Viaduct is to temporarily close in order to allow work to be carried out.

For an eight-week period, commencing from 17 February, the footpath over the bridge structure will close. The footpath runs between Langlee, Galashiels and Tweedback over the River Tweed.

The closure will allow Network Rail to undertake a series of improvement works, including waterproofing and resurfacing the viaduct deck; moving the utilities, and carrying out masonry repairs.

While the works are being carried out, a footpath diversion will be in place via Galafoot bridge. Elsewhere, work on the bridge will continue once the path reopens, with the walking route fenced off, but once the railway opens in autumn 2015, a footpath will be created alongside the railway.
