Councillors in Perth have voted to demolish the city's listed civic hall.

The decision came after a bid to redevelop the category B-listed building was rejected by officials last month.

The Council had previously stated it wanted to demolish the building, but their plans were blocked by Historic Scotland in 2012 who urged the local authority to find an alternative idea for the site.

A sole bid was then submitted to transform the hall into an indoor food market, but following an assessment by commercial property experts, Jones Land Lasalle, a subsequent report found that the bid did not meet the eligibility criteria.

Now, the Council will seek permission from the Scottish Government to raze the building.

The hall, which was constructed in 1911, has lain empty since a modern concert hall was opened in the city eight years ago.
