Scottish Water has completed a £1m project to reduce the risk of flooding in the Tollcross area of Glasgow.
The scheme is part of the organisation's investment in the Greater Glasgow area's waste water infrastructure and the latest work will reduce the risk of flooding which has affected properties in Fullarton Avenue.
Limited sewer capacity had resulted in the existing sewers surcharging in storm conditions, causing flooding in the street and some internal flooding to four properties. The contractors for the project, Barhale, have now increased the capacity of the local network by installing an underground storm storage tank in the car park of St Joseph's Church.
The new storage tank will provide an additional 3330,000 litres of additional capacity, which can be held during storm conditions and then returned to the waste water network when a storm has passed.
Work on the scheme, which also involved the construction of associated pipework, a pumping station and kiosk, started in April.
Lynsey Tweedlie, Scottish Water's Project Manager, added: "Scottish Water worked closely with local residents, the Archdiocese of Glasgow and Father Andrew Mackenzie at St Joseph's Church to ensure disruption during the work was kept to a minimum.
"Most of the work was contained in the church car park but there was some traffic management required to allow us to connect the new pipework to the existing sewer network in Fullarton Avenue."
The investment in Fullarton Avenue is part of a £250m, five-year programme of investment across the Greater Glasgow area.
