Councillors in Aberdeenshire are being asked to approve the next stage of the Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme.

Next week, members of Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee will hear feedback from a recent consultation event on engineering proposals. A public event allowed residents to see what engineers thought would be the best option to help protect the town.

The preferred option includes direct defences, such as the use of "floating walls" which raise with the water level and are less obtrusive.

Following the consultation, the proposals with the greatest support are the self-closing walls between Carron Terrace and the White Bridge and from the White Bridge to Bridgefield Bridge; and the walls along the Glasslaw Burn, including rebuilding the culverts.

More people were also in favour of the option to provide disabled access to a raised White Bridge, rather than using steps, and for removal of the island at the Green Bridge.

Officers are now recommending the proposed scheme is taken forward.
