Success For Home Insulation Scheme

Householders in East Dunbartonshire have had the energy efficiency of their homes improved under the Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS).

The scheme has been running in the area since 2011 and in that time, more than 400 homes have benefited.

Work includes the installation of free insulation in cavity walls, lofts and external walls, while cavity extractions have also been carried out on a small number of properties.

The Scottish Government allocated £350k to East Dunbartonshire Council during 2011/12, while a further £405k was received in 2012/13 and all of the remaining UHIS funding has been committed.

The UHIS initiative has since been replaced with the Home Energy Efficiency Programme for Scotland (HEEPS), but the Council is submitting a bid to the Government for this funding so that free home insulation can continue.

Depute Leader of the Council and Convener of Housing and Community Services, Ashay Ghai said: "The Universal Home Insulation Scheme has been an excellent opportunity for people living in East Dunbartonshire to improve energy efficiency within their homes.

"Householders will not only see a reduction in their fuel costs, but by having home insulation installed they are reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions in the area, benefiting the environment."

Mr Ghai added: "Householders who were unable to take advantage of UHIS will have further opportunity to access home insulation funding in the future."
