Work to build a new £6.5m supermarket in Dundee is due to begin, following the award of the contract to Barr Construction.
Barr will build Asda’s new 40,000 square foot store, expected to create up to 200 jobs during construction and up to 500 long-term jobs once it opens.
Barr will work alongside civil and structural engineering consultants Bielski Associates and Wallace Whittle.
Construction is expected to last around six months before the store opens in summer next year.
Paul Griffen, construction director at Barr Construction, said: "Barr has gained invaluable experience of delivering retail stores all around the country over the past 20 years.
"However, this will be the first store we will build for Asda and we look forward to bringing this experience to bear on the delivery of a quality project and hopefully cementing our relationship with a new client."
The new store is being jointly undertaken by Asda and local development company Macdonald Estates.
£24m has been invested in the project.
