City Building Awarded Maryhill Housing Contract

City Building has been awarded a £2.5m three-year contract to carry out maintenance work for Maryhill Housing Association.

The contract begins on 14 January next year and will see the Glasgow-based company carry out maintenance work to the housing association’s entire housing stock portfolio.

In order to undertake the contract, City Building will employ two apprentice joiners, one apprentice plumber and one apprentice electrician specifically for the job.

The company is also recruiting five new apprentices and offering three work experience placements for the local area.

City Building says it will also work to integrate local SMEs into the delivery of the contract.

Cllr Paul Carey, chair of City Building, said: "City Building has an excellent track record of working in partnership with housing associations, the public, private and third sectors to deliver first-class building projects."

"We are delighted to be officially signing this new contract with Maryhill Housing Association. It fits in with our commitment to working with local communities, providing local jobs for local people."

Graham Paterson, executive director at City Building, said: "This is great news. Above all – and in keeping with City Building’s ethos – we will be able to offer people from the local community who are currently unemployed a new start."

Willy Briody, chief executive of Maryhill Housing Association, added: "This is another important step forward in our partnership with City Building.

"Working together with our partners we are bringing real change to this area of Maryhill and Ruchill by building new housing and creating a place where people will want to live."

City Building is also working with Maryhill Housing Association to regenerate 18 hectares in the north west of the city and build 125 new homes.
