A Scottish renewable energy specialist is celebrating after winning the right to distribute Energie solar panels in the UK.
The technology from the Portuguese company heats water all year round using thermodynamic panels, and works on cloudy days and at night and when the air temperature is low - right down to freezing.
Solar Electricity Systems, based in Glasgow, had previously been supplying Energie panels to Scottish installers but will now distribute them across the UK and has plans to open an office in northern England.
Jim Kirkland, managing director of Solar Electricity Systems, said: "All the signs are that thermodynamic panels will be a game-changing technology. The advantages for people in the trade which the new panels have over existing systems are quite remarkable. They are compact and light, making them easy to handle, transport and store. And installation is a different ball game altogether, since the panels don't have to be fitted on to a south-facing, sloping roof, with all the scaffolding and working at height regulation requirements which that entails. Instead they can be easily fitted onto an outside wall, or even a garage wall. The installer can liaise with the customer on the most effective and least obtrusive position for the panels to be placed."
The robust, anti-corrosive panels use reverse refrigeration technology - the gas in the pipework captures heat from the ambient air and passes it into a compressor. This creates further heat, which is the transferred into the water cylinder.
