Italian Crane Driven Across Europe For Scottish Company

An equipment hire firm based in Belfast searched around the world for a 10 tonne pick and carry crane for a "blue chip customer", delivering it across borders to the engineering company's base in Helensburgh, Scotland.

Davey Walker, an area manager for Speedy Services, said: "We had an enquiry from one of our blue chip customers for a crane with a very specific footprint, and so began a worldwide search."

The crane was finally found in Italy and transported to Argyll and Bute in time for the engineers' project.

A spokesperson for Speedy Services said: "A brand new crane was delivered to the Scotland site following Peter Issitt, from Crowland Cray, leading a visit to the Italian based Ormig and collected the new crane for delivery, putting it on his low loader. The whole process went very well, and both the client and Speedy were very happy with the results."

Speedy also conducted full operator and engineer familiarisation training for the client. More than 20 operators were involved, and the entire process took five months.

Speedy Services provides equipment hire and support services to construction, manufacturing, industrial, rail and related industries.
