PLANS to build a new Dunfermline Museum and Art Gallery were today given the green light.
City of Dunfermline Area Committee passed two planning applications in an important milestone for the museum and art gallery project, which will chart the history of Scotland’s ancient royal capital.
Local people can get the chance to get a sneak peek of the proposed new facility as a 3D model is on show in Dunfermline Carnegie Library.
Provost of Fife Jim Leishman and City of Dunfermline Area Committee Chair Councillor Mike Rumney paid a visit to have a look and encouraged others to do the same.
Provost Leishman said: "It was really interesting to see how the architect has blended the new museum and art gallery with the world’s first Carnegie Library in Dunfermline. It will be great to see the new Museum showcasing objects from Dunfermline's rich history."
Work is still continuing on the project and world-renowned architecture firm Richard Murphy Associates has developed the plans along with Fife Council.
The displays for the artefacts in the new museum are being designed by Redman Design.
Councillor Mike Rumney said: "I'd encourage people to go along and have a look at the model which helps bring the plans to life."
The project won £2.6m funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund in November 2010 and Fife Council allocated an additional £6.8m from its capital budget.
