A housing association in the west of Scotland has saved £93,843 in the last year by putting green practices into place.
Barratt West of Scotland's dedicated Green Team are a group of employees who help raise awareness of environmental and sustainability issues across the house builder's office in Stepps and 20 developments throughout the west of Scotland.
They put in an environmental policy in the hope of delivering improved performance and their work had the happy side-effect of making savings.
Initiatives which have proved successful include double sided photocopying and printing, reduction in colour copying, using email instead of fax, uniform and pallet recycling, site audits and temperature control in showhouses and drying rooms, time clocks on water heaters in office, installation of motion activated lighting and reduction in heating controls.
James Watson, Managing Director, Barratt West Scotland said: "We are delighted with the success of our Green Team who are helping ensure that the whole team is aware of environmental issues and savings. We will continue to work to seek further sustainable solutions."
